Planting for the future

In January 2025, we planted twelve fruit trees as the first layer of an aspiring ecosystem. These complete the four apple trees I planted in 2024, and eight previously planted. That brings the total count to twenty-four. In a few years, that should bring quite some fruit: apples, pears, mulberries, plums, cherries, figues, abricots, jujube fruits, khakis, almonds, hazelnuts...who have I left out?
The fruit trees will constitute the upper layer of the ecosystem, that will be completed next fall by shrubs and groundcover with edible roots. All the chosen plants have their function in a thriving ecosystem. This thriving ecosystem replentishes and enriches the soil, creating a positive feedback loop whereby the edibles become increasingly nutritious. Depending on the quantity of life in the soil, a fruit or vegetable can contain up to twenty times more nutrients. The solution to man's food supply problem was never to mass produce. The time of reckoning is near.
The plantation design and planting were carried out in collaboration with Aurélia and Alice (Paysages en transition), whom I thank immensely for their heartelt involvement. The PDF below provides an overview of the planned plantations (in French only).
